This past weekend, Mark’s stepmom came to visit for four days. After losing her husband, Marks’ dad, just a few months ago, we were very happy that she was adventurous enough to fly to VA and spend a few days with us. She went with us to McLean Bible Church’s Christmas Village on Friday night.
Then after the freezing rain from early Saturday morning melted, we headed downtown to see the National Christmas Tree near the White House.
Here is Nana with Ohio’s state tree and with the girls and the White House.
Unfortunately, weren’t invited inside (I can’t imagine why not…), but the White House did look very pretty from the outside.
Despite a rather long and cold Metro ride (due to track repair which we didn’t know about), we finished our big afternoon/evening in Washington with a fabulous dinner at Bar Taco. Just what we all needed! We kept it pretty low key for the rest of the weekend and dropped Nana off at the airport this afternoon, and we were very glad that she took on a new adventure and came to VA. If we promise Bar Taco and my homemade pound cake, I think we might even get her back again for a visit in the future!
Yes I did step out of my comfort zone. But it was so worth it. Spent time with my son and his lovely family. They went all out to plan my stay and I felt right at home. Christmas weekend will be with a visit from my step- daughter and family coming to Ohio. I"m so blessed to have my step children in my life. Their love for me I've always cherished. This Christmas will be tough because I lost my husband of almost 45 years in August. The one thing I do know, is that he truly Loved all three of his children and I see a little part of him in each of them. Thank you so much Amanda for all you did to make my weekend Special.. See you all this summer.. Love Nana
