Bethany Beach 2021

After cancelling our beach vacation in 2020 because of Covid, we were so ready and excited to head to the beach last week.  The kids had just wrapped up the school year on a Tuesday, and we left for the beach the Sunday that followed.  It just happened that the Sunday we left was Father’s Day, so we celebrated Mark a little bit the day before, and got to the beach just after lunch time.  Everyone got right in their suits, and we were down at the water for the rest of the day.
Bethany has been a great beach for us the past few years.  The waves are great for playing and boogie boarding, the beaches are nice, and Sea Colony (where we stay) has all the amenities we need.  Typically, Mark and I start our day on the early side with coffee and a workout, then we head right down to the beach to spend a couple hours before lunch.  We head back up to the condo for lunch then spend the rest of the day at the beach.   We eat out twice for dinners, the rest of the meals we eat in, but we always walk down the beach after dinner to the boardwalk for shopping or ice cream (or both).

One of the activities we always do is Bingo.  Twice a week in the evening, they host Bingo and it’s always a popular activity from the young to the old.  Normally, Mark goes down early to save us a table, and we generally play the hour and never win.  The picture on the left was from Monday evening’s Bingo.  They came so close several times, but the frustration of never winning was quite funny!  However, come Wednesday evening’s Bingo, Nina won the very first game, getting her pick of the prizes (that Sea Colony insulated cup she’s holding in the picture).  Go figure, a few rounds later Mark won too, so we walked away from the evening big winners with two prizes and happy people!  ha ha! :)

On Wednesday, we got an afternoon storm that blew up from just around lunch time until 5:00.  We used that time to do a little shopping, but we went back down to the beach afterwards, and it was beautiful!  The storm had created big tide pools, and the clouds were so pretty.  It was a great evening for a good beach walk.

Nina and Lyla really got into playing football on the beach this year.  Mark and I always play paddleball every day, but this year Nina also regularly joined in our rotation of paddleball and, much to my dismay, she and Mark have the record of consecutive hits together!

Every morning, Mark and I like to sit out on the balcony while we have our breakfast and coffee, and we do the same when we come up for the night but with a glass of wine.  The pinkish photo isn’t edited to be that way.  It was the evening after we had that storm on Wednesday, and the sky was beautiful.

So, we got in tons of beach time, lots of walks, lots of paddleball and football, lots of ice cream (for Nina and Lyla), had some good food, and overall really soaked in a time of no work, no virtual school, no stress, and nothing to do but hang at the beach.  I feel very thankful for the opportunity to get this time together as a family, make memories, and enjoy one of my favorite places to be - the beach.  It was a great week, but we were also happy to get home to see Cayenne.  She had been having some quality time with Mousey and Poppy all week, and while we know she is in the very best of hands with them, we all did miss her!   On another happy note for me, we got back from the beach, and I got word that my camera was fixed, so thankfully I’ll have it back for the rest of the summer.
