Hiking and Biking

We’ve been able to enjoy quite a bit of hiking and biking lately.  The weather has been great, and without sports on the weekends, we normally head out on one of the weekend days for a bike trip or hike.  Two Saturdays ago we were getting the roof replaced on our house, and the noise was understandably very loud in the house, so we headed out to Weaverton Cliffs - a hike we’ve done before, but it’s nice for getting out of the house for the afternoon to enjoy a beautiful day.

The next weekend we went hiking at Turkey Run Park.  In all the years we’ve lived here, we hadn’t been there to hike. It’s hard to believe as we’ve passed right by it a zillion times, and it’s such a cool place!!!!  It’s hard to believe all that space is hidden right outside the city.  The loop we hiked was just over four miles, but we stopped a lot for climbing rocks, hanging at the water, and letting Cayenne swim.  Even though I’m surprised it’s taken us this long to check it out, I’m so glad we did!

Whether it’s around the neighborhood or hitting up the W&OD or C&O Canal trails, biking has been something we’ve also enjoyed so much more of in quarantine.  Whenever we hike, Cayenne comes with us, but on our bike trips, she stays home as we’re going longer and faster than she’d be able to run.  I am in favor of getting a little side car for the bike so she can ride along with us, but I think at this point, I may have to choose the sidecar or Mark!  LOL!  I’m still considering my options…

The other day, however, the girls and I were going to bike just over four miles around the neighborhood, so we took Cayenne with us.  She insists on running so hard and fast when we’re biking with the girls (because she wants to race them and be first), so at about halfway into the run, she was really in need of cooling down.
We stopped off at the pond and let her swim and cool off.  She was so hot she just layed down in the water and let it wash over her, but that seemed to do the trick for her and she was good to go for the last half of the run to get back home.
