Over Labor Day weekend, we went back to White Oak Canyon. We were actually there over Labor Day weekend in 2018 as well! Being that it was a holiday weekend, we knew there were going to be lots of people there, but we were anxious to get back there (Nina wasn’t with us when we went the first time), and we had a completely free day with beautiful weather, so we decided to take advantage.
As always, the sights at White Oak Canyon are beautiful. This time, we arrived and ate our lunch at a cool spot, then we started the hike up the mountain. It is quite challenging on the way up, so we heard some moans and groans from the girls, but much of the work is forgotten once we stopped off at the waterfalls to play in the water.
Even though it was a hot day, the water is very cold, so it was rather refreshing! Nina and Lyla even found rock slides to ride down on their bottoms, dropping into a little water hole. It was a nice way to round off the hike after putting in the work to hike to the top of the mountain and back down.
We stopped off in Warrenton on the way home to get dinner and ice cream at Carnival. After all the hiking, we managed to cancel it out with burgers, fries, and ice cream. Oh well! It was tasty and a welcome treat (particularly for the kids and dog).
Labor Day weekend rouded off with a little smores’ night on the deck. Sometimes it’s nice to not be travelling or booked with sports activities on a holiday weekend. We enjoy those things, but it’s also nice to just hang locally and make up some fun things to do.
