Making the Most of the Last Week

We are officially wrapping up the last week of summer.  It’s hard to believe that the end is already here.  August has gone by so fast!!! The girls start back to school on Monday, and we’re fitting in our last bit of fun before it’s back to business.  Here are just a few pictures I took with my phone camera of what’s been going on the lat few days.  Nina and Lyla really wanted to bake on their own, so they picked out a snickerdoodle recipe from my cookbook, and they made them on their own.  Between the three of these in the kitchen, it’s a wonder that any of the cookies actually made it out of the oven!
We got a ping pong talbe for the basement, so that has been a fun little addition, and after waiting 8 1/2 years to lose her first tooth, Lyla is making up for lost time.  She lost her third tooth this past month.  Presently, both top front teeth and one on the bottom are missing.  I have a feeling she’ll be keeping the tooth fairy busy this fall.

Our baby dog is still one of the sweetest, most gentle pups in the world.  We know all her hunting dog relatives would be so proud if they could only see her now...
Another fun little activity we fit in this week was hopping on our bikes at the W&OD trail and biking to the Herndon Dairy Queen which has become kind of a summer tradition.  As the girls have gotten bigger it’s a much easier trip than it used to be than when I first took them. Next summer I may have to make them work a little harder for that big blizzard!

We also got in another summer tradition - our bake sale for charity. Normally our bake sale is earlier in August, but better late than never! This time all the proceeds went to World Help (worldhelp.net).  We had a good turnout of neighbors and kids who came by to help and buy some baked goods.  We’re thankful for the help in supporting a great organization! This picture made me laugh because of Cayenne in the top left hand side of the picture.  She spent the majority of the bake sale whining about not being able to get at the treats.  Such a baby!
