First Day of School

It’s hard to believe we’re already through the second full day of school.  Nina started second grade on Tuesday and Lyla started Kindergarten!  To get things started for Nina, we let Cayenne come in and say good morning to her just after her alarm went off.  She doesn’t always wake up bright eyed and with a smile on her face, but there is always a lot of energy around the first day of school.

So hard to believe this girl is off to second grade! I was sad to see her go.  I really enjoy having her home in the summer.  I’m never lost for conversation when Nina is around the house! The bus arrives at 7:23, so Nina was off and out of the house quite early.

Then there was this one.  Lyla got afternoon Kindergarten – which is really like late morning Kindergarten.  In our county, K is still half-day, so she only goes for three hours, but this is the first three hours in her life that she’s ever been away at school.  Since I taught her preschool at home, I was feeling a little nervous for her and hoping that she’d be ok getting off to school.  She picked out one of her favorite shirts and her new pair of Twinkle Toes, and she was actually all smiles getting ready to head out to the bus.

Along with her friends on the street who were starting afternoon K, she waited for the bus to arrive to take her to school for the first time.

The bus was running a little bit late so the kids were playing up and down the sidewalk when they turned and saw the bus coming down the street.  Love the faces!!!  When you’re in Kindergarten, riding the bus is a big highlight!

Then she was off.  Sigh…

Both girls really have had two good days since school started.  They have very nice teachers, and they seem to enjoy the kids in their classes.  Lyla did comment this morning that she wasn’t so sure she wanted to go back to Kindergarten today as it’s a “little boring”, but I think that will change as these first couple days of acclimation and routine building are done.  So far, so good!

So, you ask what I’m doing with my three free hours a day?  Here’s your answer…
