When I left DC United, after 15 years of service as a player and assistant coach, I never would have guessed, or designed for that matter, the path that we have been on. The big plan was to enter into the college soccer world. Well that didn’t happen. They say God has a plan for each of us that we could never imagine on our own. That couldn’t be more true in our case. As you may know, after looking into a bunch of different soccer opportunities, an opportunity to become a licensed mortgage loan officer came about. To say the last 15 months have been a challenge is quite an understatement. I have learned a lot, not just about the mortgage business, but about patience, suffering, perseverance, character and hope. I have met some incredible people along the way. I am truly blessed to have a supportive wife and family that provide never ending love. Just as I became a newbie in the mortgage world, I sent a misguided text that ultimately connected me back to soccer. That opportunity is about to come to fruition. Come November 5th, 2012 I will be involved in a new NASL franchise in Virginia. My official title will be Director of Soccer Operations but will wear quite a few hats. I ‘m looking forward to the opportunity of building something from the ground up and starting a new adventure. I will still be involved in the mortgage world so it will be interesting to see it all balances out.
We will be having a “Name the Team” contest, so feel free to go to: http://www.naslvirginia.com/home-page/ to submit your idea for a team name.
Congrats, Mark! Glad to see your passion and expertise being put to use as the Director of Soccer Operations. What a journey!
ReplyDeleteI have also sent misguided texts, but none of them have ended well. :)
