We're in Trouble

Since Nina's birthday is a little over a week away, I've been asking her what she really would like for her birthday. She has given one answer consistently - a dog. Mark and I are still holding onto the excuse of, "Let's wait until you get a little bit older," to which her response is, "I'm getting older mom, can I have a dog?" Mark and I are dog people, so if there is any pet entering the Simpson house, we want it to be a dog, we just don't want it yet. We just got out of the baby world, do we want to go back in with a puppy? I don't think so, but I have always said that I think new puppies are cuter than newborn babies. Let's be honest, don't we all? Anyway, I asked her again yesterday what she really wanted for her birthday, and again she told me a dog. I called Mark on his way into work this morning to tell him (since I forgot yesterday), as I was starting to cave a bit, but then he reminded me of all the dog hair, chewed on furniture, poopy scooping, potty training, coming home for the dog, etc. Ok, so Nina's going to have to wait another year I think. But, it would be so cute...

  2. Oh come one, get the poor child a dog. Just think when Mark is gone it will be a good bedmate :). Now if that isn't tempting I don't know what is. Shen

Get a dog! I feel like I'm going to cave too - maybe we should cave at the same time (although I'll be caving to a husband, not a child (yet!)

  4. Really, it's not that much extra work (coming from a person with a nine year old dog admittedly). But I'd think that it'd be easier for you now because you are home (or can stop by) a lot more now than if you were working to let it out. We trained Maddie when we both worked horrible hours and it still wasn't too bad. Though she does have a bladder of steal. Just make sure you have a good vacuum for the hair and it's no big deal. That and buy a Furminator brush if you have a dog with a lot of hair like a lab or golden retriever...
Oh, and one of Sam's chores for his allowance is to feed her!

Its the energy that makes them a pain but once you wear them out, they are easy to train. You've got a fenced in yard and two built in exercisers so you should be all set. They wore out Stella which is no easy task.

You better pull the trigger on your terms or you never know what you will find on your doorstep.
