Fabulous February

We had a fabulous and very unseasonably warm several days this past weekend.   The weather was sunny and 70 degrees.  It felt like spring!  We took advantage and spent as much time outside as possible.  The girls played a lot with their friends at the park, and we had some fun family activities as well.
On Saturday, we took our bikes to the W&OD trail and biked to Fireworks pizza again.  It’s a fun trip that takes us about 40 minutes of biking to get to dinner, and probably a little less to get back to the car after we eat.  It was such a beautiful afternoon that we biked there in short sleeves.  When does that ever happen in February?
Since it was a holiday weekend and Mark and the girls had off on Monday, I got a sub for my class and we drove out to Bear’s Den Overlook for a family hike.  Again, the weather was beautiful for enjoying the outdoors.  The hike was pretty easy, and I wish it would have been longer, but we spent a lot of time exploring around at the top of the hike, having a picnic lunch, etc.  It was a great day to be out in nature!

The overlook even had a nice little stop off location for hikers making the trek on the Appalachian trail.  That was another great area for the kids to explore, so Bear’s Den ended up being a very kid friendly, fun litte hike that we can add to the list of fun places to go for some outdoor fun.

A Day in the Life...

Cayenne has a pretty rough life.  She was bred to be a hunting dog, and while many of her litter mates and K9 cousins are spending time outdoors in kennels and riding along in hunting trucks with their masters, Cayenne has a rough suburban life in Ashburn.  She works hard every day with little time for naps and little luxuries...

…her job of “waking up the girls” is taken very seriously.  She never tries to shoo them out of the bed so she can take prime spot on their pillows...

…she rarely gets sleepovers and play dates with her friends.   It’s a very lonely life...

…and when the girls earn Sweet Frog for good report card grades, Cayenne has to sit to the side and just dream of ice cream.  She never gets a pup cup of frozen yogurt all to herself...
…yes, it’s a rough life indeed, but she took one for the litter in coming to reside with a suburban family.  It’s a rough life!
