First Mini Performance

This past weekend, Nina’s cheer team had their first informal performance for a Breast Cancer Awareness event.  Nina was excited, and the girls did great! I tried to switch over to video at the end to get Nina’s tumbling pass (front walkover into a double back handspring) at the finish of their routine, but I didn’t get it going in time.  :(  In addition to the performances from the different cheer teams, there was face painting, balloon making, a photo booth, and some other active stations.  Since Saturday was super windy and quite cold, it was a pretty good way to spend a couple hours that afternoon.

The Latest

This past Monday was Columbus Day, and our girls and the cousins both had off school, so we met up for a hike at Red Rocks Overlook Park.
The girls hiked and explored, and Cayenne of course loved being along.  Going on hikes is one of her absolute favorite things!

Speaking of Cayenne, I had these photos on my phone from the past week - all typical Cayenne.  She’s goes up in the morning to “help” wake up the girls.  That usually entails her jumping into bed with them and nosing them, licking them, and burrowing under their covers until they concede to waking up.  Sometimes she needs to take a more firm stance and actually take over the bed completely!  She also gets jealous if I’m cuddling with one of the girls or even sitting with them while they read.  In this instance, Lyla was reading to me after school, and as she usually does, Cayenne tries to get right in the middle.

She also tries to get in the middle even when she’s not supposed to be on the couch.  She just can’t stand to be out of the center of attention!

Lyla had two games on this beautiful fall weekend.  They had the previous two weekends off, but they got easily back into the swing of things on Saturday.  I think she was extra excited to score two goals on a game when Uncle Bo came to watch her play!  :)

The next day they were back at it again, and this time Lyla had her rotation in goal for the first half of the game.  Each of the girls takes a turn playing in goal for a half, and Lyla’s first rotation in goal several weeks ago was very uneventful.  I think she only had to touch the ball once.  This week still wasn’t very busy (which her parents were happy about), but she did get to make some stops.  I don’t think we’re looking at a “like father like daughter” situation here, but she’s got punting down pretty well!  :)

We’re so happy to have such nice girls on Lyla’s team, and they love their coach a ton, so it’s been a fun experience for Lyla this year.

Homecoming Parade

On Friday, Nina’s cheer gym had the opportunity to be a part of a local high school’s Homecoming parade.  Nina’s lead cheer coach is also the head cheer coach at the high school, so the girls were invited to be a part.  Nina was very excited, and thankfully the parade took place before all the scheduled rain rolled into town.  All the girls had lots of candy to throw on the parade route, and it was literally raining candy.  Lyla (who was a little disppointed at first not being able to participate in the parade) quickly realized that running along side the parade would profit her pounds of candy!  So, she had a great time as well.  I had to actually cut her off candy collecting as it got too much for our bag to hold.  Just what we need before Halloween!
